Power and Fury checked all of the boxes for us. Original? Check! Immersive? Check! Thought-provoking ending? Check! This was a meaningful and entertaining read for us Religious Studies geeks. Finally, a fantasy book whose main focus isn't vampire romance! Religion is seldom discussed in young adult books, meaning this was a fresh and favourable difference from other stories we've read. Teenage readers will connect with the protagonists, three teens who struggle with home, school, and social life between them. We loved Archie, a chaotic, careless boy that proves himself as a person because of his strong passion for animals and his sisters. At the heart of every event, character, and setting is a down-to-Earth message that resonates with readers. We didn’t hesitate for a moment giving Power and Fury a full five stars! If you’re looking for meaning in fantasy, you’ve just found it!
Our Favourite Thing: With difficulty, we decided on ONE favourite thing: the plot and conflict! We each love prophecy stories, and this was the epitome of the sort! These unsuspecting and “random” children are the Heirs of Eden; an original idea about a topic never discussed in non-religious books. The structure of the story was formulaic, though it was not a negative aspect. Readers are introduced to the characters and the oddity of their life, their personalities and situations are developed, Cain is introduced, and the climax. It was fantastic! Erith is a very talented writer who is clearly very passionate about his writing.
Our Least Favourite Thing: You know you’ve met an amazing book when three readers separately decide that there are no noticeable faults! Each of our readers devoured Power and Fury and came back with only positive notes. If you read this book, you’re guaranteed to enjoy it!
Author Information
Born in Bury St. Edmunds, England.
James travelled the world extensively. He was shot at in India, climbed Pyramids in Egypt and mountains in the Himalayas, was police-detained in Hawaii, broke his neck in Australia, swam with beavers in Canada as well as all the usual stuff like hypothermia, muggings, desert breakdowns, getting lost, etc...
James has worked as a landscaper, designer, teacher, estate agent, researcher, a PA and a journalist among other things and he's easily distracted by the sound of leather on willow.
James lived between the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors with his young family. It inspired him to use these beautiful areas as the location for his writing.
In 2013 James rowed the English Channel and the 21 tidal miles of the Thames for MND and Breakthrough Breast cancer.
James retains a childhood passion of making dens, pitching fires, star gazing and talking nonsense.
Writing Schedule: James is currently working on a hatful of different projects. This includes a reworking of Eden Chronicles as a purely fantasy tale, a couple of terrific screenplays, a children’s series, and a couple of other wonderful stories.
