Similar to Power and Fury, Spider Web Powder was a developed, thought-provoking, immersive story. In this second installment, readers are provoked to ponder the difference between good and intention while following the characters through their apprehensive adventures! If you have read and loved The da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, It’s the End of the World as We Know It by Emma Katherine (one of our team members!), and The Devil’s Apprentice by Kenneth B Andersen.

Summary by Author
Some say the world was made in seven days. In seven days, it will end.

In the wake of a freak storm that’s devastated northern England, Archie, Daisy and Isabella find themselves trapped in a magical cave. Here, the walls are covered by mysterious paintings whose images tell of three stone tablets that must be discovered ...

Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the deluge, a deadly virus threatens the whole of the UK. The ghost, Cain, hatches a plan to penetrate people’s dreams using his contaminated spider web dream powders. He plots to spread the virus rapidly around the world, causing pandemonium.

Can Archie, Daisy and Isabella harness their new-found physical powers? Can they trust in their unlikely status as the Heirs of Eden to escape the cave and begin their quest to find the tablets?

The race to claim the greatest prize of all has begun.

Spider Web Powder, the second part of James Erith’s Eden Chronicles series, continues the electrifying adventure of The Power and The Fury.

Our Statements
Sequel syndrome? We’ve never heard of it! Spider Web Powder was a perfect continuation of Power and Fury because retained the consistency of the characters and overall plot but discussed new topics in new ways. The de Lowe siblings, much to Cain’s chagrin, survived the storm from the previous book and now have seven days to complete a series of riddles to overcome their doom. The scavenger-hunt was a fresh, mind-boggling, and adored change to the series! We couldn’t set this race against the clock down for a second.

Review, 5/5
Opinions: To put it simply, Spider Web Powder was AWESOME! It was a beautiful sequel to Power and Fury for the change in plot and action but continuation of the characters and ultimate goal. It was lovely reading a sequel that had its own unique story but successfully carried on the character development and themes. For these reasons, Spider Web Powder was upbeat, scandalous, and all-consuming. Our readers were further cultivated by Archie’s chaotic charm and Isabella’s thoughtful wit through their intense journey of solving riddles. Tom Riddle fans, this one's for you! Readers were also given an opportunity to ponder the riddles and test your abilities. What else can be said? This book was a hearty continuation of the series, just as thought-provoking about religion and war, and even more relatable to teens in 2020 than the previous book. We didn’t hesitate awarding it 5/5 for a moment!

Our Favourite Thing: Naturally, we all adored how creative yet realistic Spider Web Powder was! In this day and age of Covid-19 plaguing our world (pun intended), it was delightful to see everything that’s happening from a lower-risk point of view. Erith was very precise with the logistics but open minded with the rest, making for a comparative and motivating story.
Our Least Favourite Thing: This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just a comment that needs a place. The summary of Spider Web Powder focuses on the Ebora virus, unlike the book. The novel surprisingly focuses on the context and “behind-the-scenes” of the epidemic, including Prime Minister meetings, gatherings between Cain, Gaia, and Schmerger, and weather reports. All of the things you usually don’t find in YA fantasy were included, which made for a fresh and insightful story! We were impressed with the context and external affairs, it simply wasn’t what we were expecting.

Power and Fury is a prophetical, thought-provoking, fantastical story for teenagers! If you have read and loved Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, Lullaby of Flames by Candace Robinson, Good Omens by Gaiman and Pratchett, or watched CW’s "Supernatural," you’ll adore Power and Fury! You’ll also adore the Easter-eggs and references if you’ve taken GCSE or A Level Religious Studies! Cain, Genesis, and “40 days and 40 nights” are embedded magnificently for all to understand but only some to appreciate.

Summary by Author
"There is a shift happening, a shift in time, a shift in the way of the universe and it is happening right here, right now..."

Meet the unsuspecting Heirs of Eden - the eccentric de Lowe children. They are laid-back Archie and his twin - footballing goddess Daisy, and their hot-headed, science-mad big sister, Isabella.

A series of confusing, shocking nightmares turns their world upside down. But little do they know their dreams represent an ancient prophecy which marks the dawn of a new time.
Will the Heirs understand their dreams in time to change the course of mankind? Or will the forces of nature get the better of them?

Your world is about to change forever. The Power and the Fury has begun.

Our Statements
RS students, this is perfect for you! Power and Fury is a mix between adventure, teenage drama, and religious motifs without any controversy. We found it unique and fresh because of the setting and prophecy the young teenagers are facing! Power and Fury is thought-provoking, emotionally stimulating, and a book that you can’t read without sitting on the edge of your seat!

Review
5/5
Power and Fury checked all of the boxes for us. Original? Check! Immersive? Check! Thought-provoking ending? Check! This was a meaningful and entertaining read for us Religious Studies geeks. Finally, a fantasy book whose main focus isn't vampire romance! Religion is seldom discussed in young adult books, meaning this was a fresh and favourable difference from other stories we've read. Teenage readers will connect with the protagonists, three teens who struggle with home, school, and social life between them. We loved Archie, a chaotic, careless boy that proves himself as a person because of his strong passion for animals and his sisters. At the heart of every event, character, and setting is a down-to-Earth message that resonates with readers. We didn’t hesitate for a moment giving Power and Fury a full five stars! If you’re looking for meaning in fantasy, you’ve just found it!

Our Favourite Thing: With difficulty, we decided on ONE favourite thing: the plot and conflict! We each love prophecy stories, and this was the epitome of the sort! These unsuspecting and “random” children are the Heirs of Eden; an original idea about a topic never discussed in non-religious books. The structure of the story was formulaic, though it was not a negative aspect. Readers are introduced to the characters and the oddity of their life, their personalities and situations are developed, Cain is introduced, and the climax. It was fantastic! Erith is a very talented writer who is clearly very passionate about his writing.

Our Least Favourite Thing: You know you’ve met an amazing book when three readers separately decide that there are no noticeable faults! Each of our readers devoured Power and Fury and came back with only positive notes. If you read this book, you’re guaranteed to enjoy it!
