Our Statements
Sequel syndrome? We’ve never heard of it! Spider Web Powder was a perfect continuation of Power and Fury because retained the consistency of the characters and overall plot but discussed new topics in new ways. The de Lowe siblings, much to Cain’s chagrin, survived the storm from the previous book and now have seven days to complete a series of riddles to overcome their doom. The scavenger-hunt was a fresh, mind-boggling, and adored change to the series! We couldn’t set this race against the clock down for a second.

Opinions: To put it simply, Spider Web Powder was AWESOME! It was a beautiful sequel to Power and Fury for the change in plot and action but continuation of the characters and ultimate goal. It was lovely reading a sequel that had its own unique story but successfully carried on the character development and themes. For these reasons, Spider Web Powder was upbeat, scandalous, and all-consuming. Our readers were further cultivated by Archie’s chaotic charm and Isabella’s thoughtful wit through their intense journey of solving riddles. Tom Riddle fans, this one's for you! Readers were also given an opportunity to ponder the riddles and test your abilities. What else can be said? This book was a hearty continuation of the series, just as thought-provoking about religion and war, and even more relatable to teens in 2020 than the previous book. We didn’t hesitate awarding it 5/5 for a moment!
Our Favourite Thing: Naturally, we all adored how creative yet realistic Spider Web Powder was! In this day and age of Covid-19 plaguing our world (pun intended), it was delightful to see everything that’s happening from a lower-risk point of view. Erith was very precise with the logistics but open minded with the rest, making for a comparative and motivating story.
Our Least Favourite Thing: This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just a comment that needs a place. The summary of Spider Web Powder focuses on the Ebora virus, unlike the book. The novel surprisingly focuses on the context and “behind-the-scenes” of the epidemic, including Prime Minister meetings, gatherings between Cain, Gaia, and Schmerger, and weather reports. All of the things you usually don’t find in YA fantasy were included, which made for a fresh and insightful story! We were impressed with the context and external affairs, it simply wasn’t what we were expecting.

Born in Bury St. Edmunds, England.
James travelled the world extensively. He was shot at in India, climbed Pyramids in Egypt and mountains in the Himalayas, was police-detained in Hawaii, broke his neck in Australia, swam with beavers in Canada as well as all the usual stuff like hypothermia, muggings, desert breakdowns, getting lost, etc...
James has worked as a landscaper, designer, teacher, estate agent, researcher, a PA and a journalist among other things and he's easily distracted by the sound of leather on willow.
James lived between the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors with his young family. It inspired him to use these beautiful areas as the location for his writing.
In 2013 James rowed the English Channel and the 21 tidal miles of the Thames for MND and Breakthrough Breast cancer.
James retains a childhood passion of making dens, pitching fires, star gazing and talking nonsense.
Writing Schedule: James is currently working on a hatful of different projects. This includes a reworking of Eden Chronicles as a purely fantasy tale, a couple of terrific screenplays, a children’s series, and a couple of other wonderful stories.
